Track & Field • Coatesville

David G. Lapp was an accomplished member of the cross-country, indoor and outdoor track team at Coatesville High School. He won the 1974 Outdoor State Championship in the 880-yard run, as well as the 1974 Penn Relays Championship of America in the Mile Relay. He received the 1974 CASH Scholar-Athlete Award upon graduation.

David took his talents to the University of Tennessee where he became an All-American in the indoor 2-Mile Relay. He also anchored his team to an American Record and ran a 3:57 split on the Penn Relays Championship of America 4xMile Relay Team.

ln 1978, David graduated with a Degree in Business and was awarded the "Most Dedicated Track Athlete." Following his collegiate career, David competed and qualified for the United States Olympic Trials.

As a way of giving back for the excellent coaching and guidance he received while at Coatesville High School, David returned to CASH in 1995 to help coach the distance runners and continued to do so for more than 14 years. During his tenure the cross-country team won numerous state medals, two PA State Team Titles (2000 and 2006) and the Footlocker National Title (2006).

David was inducted into the Coatesville Sports Hall of Fame in 2001. He continues to live in the Coatesville area with his wife, Audrey.
