CURT SCHILLING - ALL STAR MAJOR LEAGUE PITCHER

Born in Anchorage, Alaska, November 14, 1966 and lived in Kennett Square while pitching for the Philadelphia Phillies from 1992-2000. Schilling also played for the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Boston Red Sox before retiring in March of 2009.

Schilling was a key member of the Phils' World Series team in 1993. That season he compiled a 16-7 record and was named National League MVP. Although he was denied a world championship with the Phillies that season, he would later play on World Series championship teams with both the Diamondbacks and two while a member of Red Sox (2004 and 2007).

Drafted by the Red Sox in the second round of the 1986 amateur draft, he signed with Boston in May that year.

In 1988 he was traded to the Baltimore Orioles for Mike Boddicker. In 1991, the Orioles traded Schilling to the Houston Astros for Glenn Davis. Schilling arrived in Philadelphia in 1992 via a trade from the Astros in exchange for Jason Grimsley.

On March 23, 2009, Schilling officially announced his retirement from professional baseball after 20 seasons. He finished his career with a record of 216 wins and 146 losses,a 3.46 ERA and 3116 strikeouts, 15th-most in Major League history. His postseason record stands at a gaudy 11-2.

Having last pitched in 2007, Schilling is eligible for the 2013 Baseball Hall of Fame ballot.

He holds the major league record for consecutive innings pitched without allowing an unearned at 69 innings. In doing so, he broke his own major league record of 53 straight innings. The streak ended when he gave up an earned run against the Yankees on May 23, 2007. In the game in which he broke his own record, he tied the American League mark for extra-base hits allowed in a game with 10. He also set a major league record for most hits allowed in an inning with 13.

Schilling is the only athlete ever to be named twice as Sports Illustrated's Sportsman of the Year. He was named an All-Star six times and was runnerup in the Cy Young Award voting in 2004.
